I do not remember Christmas Day itself that year, but the events around theCaptain America Ugly Christmas Sweater this holiday changed my life forever. I was living in Los Angles at the time and was dirt poor as I was very underemployed. I did not have any ambition, but was content. I had a new girl friend (we had been dating for not yet six weeks). I was too poor to buy a Christmas tree. It had been raining for about a week, and was expected to raining for the next week (for those of you that do not know the weather for Los Angeles, this was highly unusual). Three days before Christmas I was driving around with my girlfriend doing some last minute Christmas shopping, when an announcement came on the radio that they were giving away free Christmas trees at a location about one half mile from where we were. I looked at my girlfriend and she said, “Yes, let’s go get a Christmas tree” A couple left turns later, there we were. There was a truck with two trailers full of Christmas trees trying to give them away. The owner of the property where the truck was park had call the police and wanted them to be charged with trespassing. He had Christmas tree lot down the street and this was killing his business.

Both were tremendous multi-sport athletes. Brown excelled at football, baseball, basketball, track and lacrosse. In high school, Brown earned varsity 13 letters in those sports. Brown still holds several NFL records and he did it all in only nine years of playing for Captain America Ugly Christmas Sweater  the Cleveland Browns. Brown is in THREE halls of fame. Like Brown, Sanders in the Pro Football and College Football halls of fame, but it’s doubtful he’ll make Cooperstown. But it wasn’t for a Captain America Ugly Christmas Sweater of trying (except when he was on the Yankees). My nod goes to Jim Brown as he dominated in everything he did. Deion was great, but he was more interested in putting on a show or being a hot dog than he was a team player.

People strung cranberries and popcorn, starched little crocheted stars to hang, made paper chains and Captain America Ugly Christmas Sweater had glass ornaments, usually from Germany, about two inches wide, they would get old and lose their shine. There was real metal tinsel too, that you could throw on with the argument about single strands and clumps. Each side had it’s followers. I took Styrofoam balls and a type of ribbon that would stick to itself when wet, and wrapped the balls, and then used pins to attach sequins and pearls for a pretty design in the sixties. I also cut ‘pop-it’ beads meant for a necklace into dangling ornaments with a hook at the top to put it on the tree. Wrapped cut-up toilet paper tubes in bright wools too. Kids still remember making those.
